Body massage has always been at the forefront of technological advancements. But even before the advent of body massage and technology, people used pretty much whatever they could get their hands on. From explicit stone statues to cave paintings, from sexual eroticism to body massage, body massage has a wide history. Are you ready to read part 1 of the series?
First was the body massage.
When I started brainstorming for this blog, my head was full of questions. When was the first body massage graphic material created? What did it look like? What was it made of? I immediately imagined the common image of a caveman dragging a cavewoman off before doing what he wanted to her. Or maybe even an enterprising cavewoman carving a wooden dildo. If you had to guess, when do you think full-body massage first appeared? I think it’s safe to assume that it was very different from what we expect from smut today. People have been practicing it for thousands of years, but the first records of it date back about 25,000 years ago. And you might be wondering why it’s such an important part of our history of full-body massage.
Stone Age Sex Statues
The Venus of Willendorf may be small, but she left a big mark. This small statue is only 4.5 inches tall and depicts a sensual nude woman. It is carved from oolitic limestone, giving it an orange-reddish hue. Unlike the healthy and amazing body massage star of Naughty America, Venus was a tribute to the curvaceous motherhood goddess who raised strong children.
Venus and other similar statues are thought to represent the celebration of fertility and sex. Yes, there were big orgies back then! Scientists believe these statues were destroyed during festivals to increase fertility. Considering that we are still obsessed with creampies and thick thighs in the 21st century, has much changed?
I think it’s pretty clear that a large part of body massage relies heavily on vision. Archaeologists sometimes discover secret locations of hidden tombs filled with treasures and artworks that are thousands of years old. More common paintings tell stories about ancient gods who visited the inhabitants and granted them kindness in response to their sacrifices.
History of body massage became a fan.
Body massage has had a bad reputation for many years, which is pretty frustrating, to be honest. Without sex, we literally wouldn’t exist. It’s confusing and hypocritical that we are expected to love and hate body massages at the same time. On the other hand, the mass media is pushing our hyper-sexualization.
We’ve come a long way since those carefully carved limestone statues. Compared to the Babylonians, modern society seems pretty modest. But in another sense, body massage opened up so many opportunities for safe, consensual exploration. Want to learn more about the history of body massage? Come back soon to read part two of my series.
